Day Four

Where to start......

As far as fitness and weight loss today was a fail. Can you believe that I ventured to the chip machine at work four times and the coke machine twice? Ok so all up I had about 1/3 of a can seeing as I tipped the rest out but still......

My excuse? 13 hours at work. You may think "Hey Defib, that's a good reason". Yeah? That reason will see me fail.

Tomorow is another long day. I'll try to aim at staying away from junk food. Hmm, maybe if I don't take any change for the vending machines? Yeah that's the ticket.

Plus side for the warriors and blokes out there. Tomorow I pick up my new rifle. Mauser in 308w. Bummer though as I have to wait until i've worked another 4 shifts to get out to the range

Day Two

Picture taken in Dec '06. My best man, now mother-in-law and Jaws

Morning Weigh in

99.1 Kilograms (-0.7)
30% Body Fat (+3.5%)
50% Body Water (-1.9%)

Exercise for the day

11500 steps on the pedometer. Some advocate 10,000 steps a day coupled with healthy eating as one path towards healthy weight loss

Wrap Up

Pretty poor showing I'm afraid. I mean, come on, it was a day off and all I could do towards my goals was 11500 steps. I suppose I did finally get around to sorting out some issues I had with my application to become a Justice of the Peace so it wasn't all bad. I also thought about doing some serious exercise. That counts doesn't it? :-(

Diet

Ate Rockmelon for brekky, had canned meat for lunch :-( and steamed veggies with salmon steaks for tea. Then tied that over with some Bourbon. Overall thumbs down. The canned meat was disgusting but I still ate it - WTF was that all about? And the Bourbon? Come on get with the program. I'm pretty pissed off that I let the team down. Come on Defib, you can do so much better than that.

Message to self - TOUGHEN UP PRINCESS

My Promise to you

Tomorow I'm going to push out 100 push ups. 100 sets of 1, 20 sets of 5, within 1 hour or over the whole day, Full push-ups, girl push-ups it doesn't matter. What does matter is that I promise that before I go to bed I will perform 100 push ups.

"easiest peak"? Far out brussel sprout. I was almost vomiting by the time I got to the top. Great workout. Even my missus whom is by far fitter than me got a good workout. My pulse was racing and I worked up a great sweat.

Lessons learnt - Take more freaking water and don't eat a sausage roll just before the climb.

SWOT

This idea came from the dark recesses of my mind. For those not in the know a SWOT analysis is some sort of management exercise - Strength, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats. Here we go

STRENGTH

WEAKNESS

  • I work shift work
  • My body is run down from years of abuse
  • I like to drink soft-drink
  • I like to drink alcohol
  • I'm constantly tired
  • Have a fear about injuring myself
  • It's been so long since I was The Man (do I still have it?)
  • What happens if I fail in my quest yet again?

OPPORTUNITIES

  • Relative easy access to the gym (that i'm paying for but don't use)
  • Park right outside my unit
  • Some great area's for bush walks
  • Boxing gym with great instructors just down the road
  • Supportive wife
  • I have many different paths to my goal of fitness

THREATS

  • Working shift work I may cop out
  • I may just pack it in like I do with everything else in my life
  • Eating at family functions isn't condusive to losing weight
  • I may find new ways to shirk workouts

Then and Now

I remember one evening back in '98 or '99. I remarked that "I will never be fat like XXXX". The reply was "There is no way you'll be fat. You have to much respect for yourself".

Yet here I am 8 or 9 years later and I am what I promised myself I'd never be.

I was riding to work five days a week, attending kung-fu classes 3-4 times a week and training in my own time, I rode mountain bikes every other weekends with my mates and I earned my living shifting heavy weights in a warehouse where I prided myself on being one of the hardest workers there.

When I applied to the Navy I was at my peak. They wanted 3 chin ups I pumped out 21 (I didn't try for more. Why when I was 7x better than their requirments.), I could push out over 70 push ups in one set and was gunning for 100, running was my weakness but there again I kicked their time limit with over 2 minutes to spare. My kung-fu was going great guns and the last fucker to cross me was lucky I didn't follow through. From memory I was about 11% body fat. I was walking tall. Hell, my nick-name was "Big Trav". Whilst I've never been a "hard" man I have bounced and whilst on the door I never let the boy's down.

Fast forward to '07. I'm a fat fuck. Soft and pudgy. I struggle to do 17 push ups, I run out of breath walking up a hill and the last guy that crossed me I was at a loss what to do. More on this later.

OK Stats time

Height - 175cm
Weight - 99.8kg (corrected from 98.8kg)
BMI - 32.3
Body Fat - 26.5%
Body Water - 51.9%
Fitness (1 set max)

0 - Chin-Ups (not even ONE - now i'm angry at myself)
20 - Push Ups
30 - Body weight squats
